Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excelence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.Philippians 4:8

The Great Physician

"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'" Isaiah 52:7

The lines of tired, undernourished people grew as they waited to see one of three nurses. Many of the women had babies at their breasts and several small children clinging to their skirts. Some people walked miles to get the first medical care they had ever received. Some waited all day without having any food or water. In this faraway valley, food and water were scarce commodities.

As these quiet and humble people sat in front of me, flies dotted their faces. I recognized their obvious need for medical attention, but I saw a much deeper need. The darkness in which they lived needed to be penetrated by our Great Physician. After I prescribe pills, creams or syrups to meet their physical needs, I prayed with them, knowing that the Holy Spirit would meet their spiritual needs if they would let Him.

After my silent prayer, a very old lady approached the table. She had lived 80-plus years in darkness and oppression. I handed her some pills and I prayed for her.

I asked if she had ever heard of Jesus. She said no. I shared with her the wonderful plan of salvation He offered her is she only believed. Excitedly, she said she wanted to know this Jesus!

As we prayed together, a new child of God was created. When I opened my eyes, the beauty in her face looked almost youthful. She had a new peace that circumstances could never take away. The Great Physician had healed this lady for all eternity.

-Nancy, Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa

Father God, You truly are the One who mends broken lives. Thank you for being the Balm of Gilead for all who need a touch from You. Use medical missionaries today to bring your physical and spiritual healing to the needy. AMEN

the things I have been learning lately:

that I need to get over me and start fresh and new each morning with my Heavenly father.

who likes finals week?

not me.

I have too many things to do but just not motivated to write any papers or even to study for the big Philosophy final...

O Lord, I don't want to forsake you. please help me to be a bit more reliable. You're sufficient enough for me.

I read something last night that made me think about my future. do I graduate and go to seminary? do I graduate and go back to SD and begin to find a job to pay off some debt? do I just need to stop worrying? most definately.

I love Jeremiah 29:11....You know the verse...lets believe it together...

The weather is much cooler. I like it a lot. Last night was my professor's Cookie Push at his house. His wife made some dang good cookies. He has two beautiful children too. A few of us girls played cars with his youngest son. I think he is only 1 or 2 but that boy knows how to speak his opinion. Very SMART kid=fun to play cars with!

I need to write letters to some people but just haven't taken the time to. Hopefully next week I'll get all my Christmas cards sent out to my loved ones!! If you don't get one and you're reading this please leave me a comment and I'll be sure to send you one!

December is my favorite month. I really like being with my family. This Holiday is always a financial burden for a lot of people but I think that God ultimately restores friendships during this holiday and more people come together during this month to celebrate something so special. The Birth of our Savior...I am thankful for Jesus!

Last sunday I went to a Spanish speaking church. It was for my cross-cultural paper due in Missions class. I love languages. Spanish is so fun. I really wish that I knew how to speak it. I think that is something I'll take up after I graduate from college. I really love learning new languages. It requires a lot of time to study for them and I just have not been a very diligent student to study any lanuages since last semester..I took Koine Greek. It was pretty sweet but it isn't a spoken language. You know is should be though I mean in the context that we read the Bible out loud more often. I think I learn best when I read out loud. That's just my way of learning though. I remember the crazy remarks that Dr. Pate would make about Mounce and he always had us laughing...GOod times with Dr. Pate! Take him for any of his classes..He is great!

Well, It should be about time for my friends to get out of Chapel. I came to the Library to check out a Labtop computer so I could begin to write my 3 papers due by friday...goodness. But Media services was closed so I am upstairs on one of these older computers with a blurry screan waiting for them to open up!

Please continue to pray for the Veatch family! I truly am praying for you people here at Ouachita...God Bless and Merry Christmas.

(i'm sure it will be a while again before I post again)

Monday, October 30, 2006

Wow. It is Monday! I'm back from Garland, Texas. It was a lot of fun to be with my sister's in T-town!
Now I must get busy! TWo papers and some other things to get done! I hope youre break went well. I'm sleepy right now, and I'm at work. This is not a good combination!

Be blessed today!
I kind of like this quote from Ortberg "The world is tired of Christians who proclaim that they know the right beliefs and are committed to the right values but in whom there is no grace." Page 135
